New York, NY — June 19, 2023 — GigaSpaces, the leading provider of an operational data hub platform, signed a deal to provide its flagship product, Smart DIH, to a top-tier university. As part of this licensing agreement, the university will use Smart DIH to consolidate over 30 digital services offered today to students and staff into a single, purely digital, self-service portal. These services include registration processes, tuition and payments, curriculum planning, grades, and student life.
For years, this university tried to modernize its digital services and consolidate them into a one-stop-shop but was not able to due to its convoluted data architecture, in which digital services were gradually added on top of multiple systems. Each front-end digital service was tightly bundled into its underlying various systems of record, which was siloed in various databases, with very limited access and visibility to the entire organization data.
This traditional data architecture also hindered data availability to front-end applications, creating latency issues and even service downtime – particularly during demand peaks, where queries made by the university’s 30,000 students overwhelmed its systems of record.
The GigaSpaces’ Smart DIH addresses this challenge by replicating all the data coming for the university’s multiple systems into a single, unified data model which serves data directly to front-end applications, and providing direct access to this data to all university applications.
“This is a much bigger story than simplifying the process of serving data to APIs”, says GigaSpaces CEO Adi Paz. “Elevating the student experience with this self-service portal helps this university compete over students with modern private colleges, which were built from the ground up around student experience and digital services. While the university had a clear advantage in its academic reputation and research facilities, it was losing ground to these private colleges. This is why they were so keen on drastically improving the accessibility of their digital services. Considering this institute’s reliance on legacy systems, this digital leap could have only been achieved with a data hub offered by the Smart DIH.”
In addition to elevating students’ digital experience, Smart DIH will also provide the university staff and faculty with a 360 view of each student, such as scorecard, social involvement, payment history, and additional evaluations – data that is currently dispersed across multiple siloed systems.
