GigaSpaces XAP 11: Geospatial Analysis Meets a Powerful In-Memory Query Engine Across RAM and SSD Storage

We’re proud to announce the release of GigaSpaces XAP 11 with new capabilities for geospatial analysis, faster large dataset processing, and business continuity.

Customers continue to select GigaSpaces In-Memory Data Grid to deploy and scale their mission critical applications leveraging transactional, analytical, and high-throughput data and business logic processing all under one unified cluster. Now, XAP 11 allows users to introduce a new type set of workloads leveraging several datagrid query engine enhancements including geospatial API, SQL user-defined functions, and custom indexes. Customers can also accelerate data reload from any fast storage medium: RAM, Flash, and SSD without any changes to their existing applications. With XAP 11, we also renewed our commitment to high availability and resiliency by improving on our battle-tested cluster coordination and discovery features.

Geospatial Analysis and Query Engine Enhancements
We know that next generation applications in a hyperconnected world converge transactional, analytical, and spatial data sources altogether. GigaSpaces XAP 11 embraces these demands by providing an in-memory data grid and query engine that store and processes geospatial data (using standards such as WKT and GeoJson). This means that users can extract situational awareness and location-based insights, combined with their operational data, at ultra-low latencies.

Our in-memory query engine has further been enhanced with several new capabilities such as the ability to create user-defined functions (UDF) in SQL for faster data filtering, along with built-in arithmetic functions to write powerful queries using simpler and more concise syntax.

Accelerated Large Dataset Processing
To speed up data reload and processing at scale, XAP 11 has improved the MemoryXtend add-on with an underlying RocksDB storage API. The MemoryXtend RocksDB add-on allows customers to load and query terabyte-scale data sets across RAM, Flash, and SSD devices all at millisecond speeds. Customers looking to either expand their data footprint beyond a few terabytes or shorten their database recovery time to a few seconds will find great value in this feature.

Resiliency and Business Continuity
GigaSpaces XAP has been the in-memory data grid of choice to run mission critical applications with its built-in high availability, redundancy and auto-healing capabilities. Building on theme of high availability (such as MemoryXtend at the storage level), XAP 11 comes integrated with Apache Zookeeper to provide highly reliable distributed coordination among cluster members. XAP clusters now have much higher resiliency options against network partitions and split brain scenarios.
