If you have other questions regarding the Start-Up Program, please contact us at startup@gigaspaces.com What is the GigaSpaces Start-Up Program? The Start-Up Program allows individuals and start-up companies, defined as companies with less than US $5 million in revenues, to use the GigaSpaces products for any purpose, including production, indefinitely - for free. There are no time, functionality or CPU limitations to this program. Who qualifies for the Start-Up Program?Any individual or company with less than $5 million in revenues during the 12 months before signing up to the program can qualify. We review the applications and reserve the right to reject any application for any reason. Basically, GigaSpaces offers start-ups with two options (or a combination of them): What happens when my company reaches $5 million in revenues?Well, first of all - congratulations! If you're already signed up to the program - nothing happens. You can continue using the license you received without any limitations. Am I eligible to receive product upgrades as part of the Start-Up Program?Participants in the program can receive all minor upgrades at no cost. We are currently in version 6.0.1. This means that participants in the program will receive all 6.x versions for free. When a major upgrade is released, such as version 7.0 - assuming the program is still in effect - you will need to re-qualify for the program in order to receive it at no charge. However, if you were signed up for the program you will still be able to purchase the next major release at a 50% discount. I am an individual, not a company, can I join the program?Yes. Individuals, corporations of all countries and not-for profit companies are all invited to join the program. If you are signing up as an individual, but would like to later on transfer your license to a company you will establish, we will work with you on that. What can I do with the GigaSpaces products under the Start-Up Program license? You can essentially do anything you want - development, testing and production. You can also embed the GigaSpaces product in your application, whether it is a Web application or packaged software. What are the limitations of the Start-Up Program license? You can essentially do anything you want - development, testing and production. You can also embed the GigaSpaces product in your application, whether it is a Web application or packaged software. The only limitations are:
I am involved in an open source project and would like to bundle the GigaSpaces product with it. Can I do that?Yes, but not with the Start-Up Program license. You can do so with the free GigaSpaces XAP Community Edition. GigaSpaces is already working closely with a number of open source projects including Spring, Mule, Hibernate, GridGain and Jini. How can I get product support as part of the Start-Up Program? You can post your support questions on the GigaSpaces support forums. GigaSpaces staff will regularly monitor and respond to these forums and will make a best effort to do so as quickly as possible. If you wish to have full 24/7 email, phone and Web support, you will have to buy the commercial license and pay annual support and maintenance fees. Participants of the Start-Up Program who wish to do this qualify for a 50% discount on the then-current price list. Please contact sales@gigaspaces.com for additional information. How can I get full 24/7 phone, email and Web product support? In order to receive our Silver, Gold or Platinum support packages, you will need to purchase a commercial license and pay annual support and maintenance fees. Participants of the Start-Up Program who wish to do this qualify for a 50% discount on the then-current price list. Please contact sales@gigaspaces.com for additional information. How much do GigaSpaces products cost? Our current price list is published here. Participants of the Start-Up Program can purchase these products at a 50% discount off of the prices stated in the price list. Why is GigaSpaces doing this? Don't you want to make money?Yes, and we do, but not from start-ups. GigaSpaces' products have been widely adopted by large organization in financial services, telecommunications, government, Web, media, manufacturing and other industries. These companies can afford to pay for our products. However, we want to encourage start-ups, who may be looking at inferior low-cost (or free) alternatives to use GigaSpaces, and only pay us when their business justifies it. Our assumption is that anyone who is doing anything of any economic significance with our products will eventually want 24/7 support and will purchase the commercial license. In a sense, we are sharing the risk of starting a new business with our customers. I am new to GigaSpaces, how can I learn more about your products? If you simply want to read about the concepts behind the GigaSpaces products, a good place to start is to read the white paper Space-Based Architecture and the End of Tier-Based Computing and The Scalability Revolution. What is this stuff about GigaSpaces on Amazon EC2?The Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) is a web service that provides resizable compute capacity in the "cloud". It is designed to make web-scale computing easier for developers. You create an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) with your application and then deploy it on the Amazon hosted servers. You pay per-usage - on a CPU per hour basis. The smallest servers cost $0.10 per hour, and larger ones are available. NOTE: You cannot use EC2 with a Start-up license key. As there is a different pricing model for usage on EC2 (and other SaaS that run GigaSpaces), you will need to apply for an EC2 specific license, and pay to both Amazon and GigaSpaces. See who qualifies for the start up program What other developer community initiatives is GigaSpaces involved in?At GigaSpaces we believe strongly in participating in and contributing to the developer community. It's good for the community and it's good for our business. In addition to the Start-Up Program, we have launched or are in the process of launching a number of community initiatives. These include the GigaSpaces XAP Community Edition and the OpenSpaces open source framework. We are also providing integration for and working closely with a number of open source projects, such as Spring, Mule, Hibernate, GridGain and Jini. What is the difference between the Community Edition and the Start-Up Program? Both offerings allow the free use of GigaSpaces XAP, but are intended for different purposes. GigaSpaces XAP Community Edition is available for free, but is functionally constrained to a single node. It is useful for testing, development and small-scale deployments. It is also ideally suited for open source projects that wish to bundle or distribute GigaSpaces XAP with their product - thus giving their product enterprise-grade performance. End users can later upgrade to the full commercial version with its powerful clustering capabilities. Are there any other benefits to joining the GigaSpaces Start-Up Program besides the free license and discount on future purchases?Yes. GigaSpaces is very interested in working on joint marketing activities with the start-ups that sign up for the program. This means that among other things, we will feature you in GigaSpaces collateral, blogs, events, webinars, case studies and more (with your explicit permission, of course). The Start-Up Program is perfect for me. How do I sign-up?Please go to the application form. Got any other questions regarding the Start-Up Program? Email us at startup@gigaspaces.com |
