A major US airline operating an extensive international and domestic network was seeking to re-platform their airport operations management infrastructure to improve the performance and scalability of introducing real-time analytics.
This airline is one of the world’s largest, managing an average of nearly 16,000 daily flights to hundreds of destinations, serving one million passengers each day. With an existing system in production since 2005, their data was being refreshed every 10 minutes without access to real-time updates.
Their system consisted of nearly 40 business applications with 8 external data sources, with data and,applications spread across multiple platforms. Data was ingested from heterogeneous systems (mainframe, SQL, and log files) through many batch processes. Continuous requests for reservations, flight operations airport operations, pricing and re-accommodation drove the airline to seek a real-time approach to gaining data insights in order to stay ahead of the curve of this competitive industry.

Challenge: Sentri7® is Wolters Kluwer Health’s flagship patient surveillance offering, used by clinicians and pharmacy staff in hospitals for clinical decision support. Sentri7 uses a high performance rules engine combined with an in-memory data grid based on XAP for surveillance, intervention, documentation, and reporting.
Whenever IT maintenance on Sentri7 is required, it is necessary to restart the grids, often taking anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour to complete the process. With GigaSpaces and SanDisk, this process can be done 20 times faster.
